The eighth race in the Indy Racing League calendar is held here at Richmond International Raceway. This three quarter mile D-shaped oval has paid host to the IRL series since 2001. Richmond has a smooth surface and a constant sixty-foot track width, but its short length means you’re going to be in traffic for much of the race. As a result the large wing, high downforce car configuration is used for this race. The track has two main grooves, but beware of the high one, which has a sting in its tail at the apex of turn two, which quickly flattens out on the exit. This has caught out a number of drivers in previous races, sending them off the racing line and into the wall.
