Twice, she has sent me a note with instructions, but said nothing in council.  But she speaks little beyond prophecy.  I am not pleased that the Council allows Garrett back into our midst.  He cares nothing for balance, or the knowledge we guard.  Even Artemus will rue this decision.\n<p>\nI take no joy in being proven right about Garrett, for it resulted in the death of my most trusted colleague.  Had I stood more strongly against him, Caduca would not now be dead.  And none has the skill to take her place as Interpreter.  Gamall is far untrained, but she is all we have.  I must make arrangements for her promotion.\n<p>\nAnother note has arrived in the hand I knew as Caduca's.  If it is her - no, that is madness.  If not her, then who have I obeyed for so long? Our halls are not safe. I am binding the Keeper Door Glyphs shut so all must pass in full view.  The Enforcers have had no luck destroying Garrett - he has learned more of our secrets than we thought.   \n<p>\nTonight, I shall see if I still remember the art of the unseen.  If Garrett is in the City, I shall find him, and the Enforcers will finish this.  With the Binding Seal still in place and kept safely in my room, no one may enter through the Old Quarter passage.  Only when Garrett is dead shall I melt the seal with fire, lest our safety be compromised."

Par deux fois elle m’a envoyé un message contenant des instructions, mais n’a rien dit lors du conseil. Elle ne parle quasiment que de la prophétie. Je n’apprécie guère que le conseil ait décidé de réintégrer Garrett. Il ne se soucie point de l’équilibre, ou de la connaissance dont nous sommes les gardiens. Artemus lui-même regrettera cette décision.\n<p> \nJe ne me réjouis point d’avoir eu raison sur Garrett, car cela a conduit à la mort de mon collègue le plus fidèle. Si je m’étais opposé à lui plus vigoureusement, Caduca ne serait point morte. Et nul ne peut prétendre la remplacer en tant qu'Interprète. Gamall manque cruellement d’expérience, mais nous n’avons qu’elle. Je dois prendre les dispositions nécessaires pour sa nomination. \n<p>\nUn nouveau message est arrivé, écrit de ce que je sais être la main de Caduca. Si c’est d’elle… non, c’est impossible. Si ce n’est elle, alors à qui ai-je obéi si longtemps? Nos murs ne sont pas sûrs. Je vais sceller les Glyphes de Portes des Gardiens, ainsi nul ne pourra passer sans être vu. Les Enforceurs ne sont point parvenus à détruire Garrett : il en sait plus sur nos secrets que nous ne l’imaginions.\n<p>\nJe verrai, ce soir, si je maîtrise encore l’art de l’invisible. Si Garrett est dans la Cité, je le trouverai et les Enforceurs en finiront avec lui. Le Glyphe Impérieux est en sécurité dans mes appartements. Donc, nul ne peut franchir le passage du Vieux Quartier. Je ne ferai fondre le Glyphe dans le feu que lorsque Garrett sera mort : il ne faudrait pas que notre sécurité soit compromise."

Zweimal hat sie mir nun schon Anweisungen geschickt, ohne im Rat ein Wort darüber zu verlieren. Andererseits war sie nie eine große Rednerin. Ich bin nicht erfreut darüber, dass der Rat Garrett wieder in unserer Mitte aufgenommen hat. Ihn kümmert weder das Gleichgewicht noch das Wissen, das wir hüten. Selbst Artemus wird diese Entscheidung eines Tages bereuen.\n<p>\nEs erfüllt mich nicht mit Genugtuung, dass ich, was Garrett betrifft, Recht behalten habe. Schließlich hat er meine treueste Amtsschwester ermordet. Hätte ich mich entschlossener gegen ihn gestellt, wäre Caduca jetzt nicht tot. Zu allem Überfluss kann niemand ihren Platz als Deuterin einnehmen. Gamall steht zwar noch am Anfang ihrer Ausbildung, aber sie ist alles, was wir haben. Ich muss Vorbereitungen für ihre Beförderung treffen.\n<p>\nHeute erreichte mich eine weitere Notiz ... verfasst in Caducas Handschrift. Wenn das ihr .... nein, das ist Wahnsinn. Aber wem habe ich all die Jahre gehorcht, wenn nicht ihr? Unsere Hallen sind nicht mehr sicher. Ich werde die Türglyphen deaktivieren, damit niemand die Türen unerkannt passieren kann. Die Vollstrecker haben Garrett immer noch nicht vernichtet. Er weiß offenbar weit mehr über unsere Geheimnisse, als wir dachten. \n<p>\nHeute Nacht wird sich zeigen, ob ich die Kunst der Unsichtbarkeit noch immer beherrsche. Wenn Garrett in der Stadt ist, werde ich ihn finden. Den Rest erledigen die Vollstrecker. Solange das Bannsiegel sicher in meiner Kammer verwahrt ist, kann niemand durch die Altstadt-Passage eindringen. Erst wenn Garrett tot ist, werde ich das Siegel mit der Kraft des Feuers schmelzen, es sei denn, unsere Sicherheit steht auf dem Spiel."

Per due volte mi ha mandato un messaggio con delle istruzioni, ma non ha detto niente al consiglio. Ma lei preferisce parlare poco della profezia. Non sono contento che il consiglio abbia deciso di riammettere Garrett. A lui non importa niente dell'equilibrio o della conoscenza che difendiamo. Persino Artemus rimpiangerà questa decisione.\n<p>\nNon posso gioire nell'aver visto giusto sul conto di Garrett, perché ciò ha significato la morte della mia collega più fidata. Se mi fossi opposto più tenacemente a lui, a quest'ora Caduca sarebbe ancora viva, e nessuno ha le qualità per prendere il suo posto come interprete. Gamall è molto inesperta, ma è tutto ciò che abbiamo. Devo prendere degli accordi per la sua promozione.\n<p>\nÈ arrivato un altro messaggio scritto con una calligrafia che sembrerebbe quella di Caduca. Se fosse davvero lei... no, non può essere. Se non è lei, allora a chi è che ho obbedito per tutto questo tempo? Le nostre sale non sono al sicuro. Sto tenendo chiusi i glifi della porta dei custodi in modo che non possa sfuggirci nessuno.
