No, they are pitiable, but inconsequential.  I can only speculate on how long a Keeper could extend a normal lifespan in this way...a hundred...two hundred years? Maybe longer.  But it would take more than vermin to accomplish that.  And I, now that I posses the knowledge, can I truly say I too am not tempted? This is why I cannot remain silent. That, and the glyph that Elder Beryl speculates must exist - though we have yet to find - one that enables shape-shifting. Mes mots ont quand même eu leur effet car il y a désormais une résolution pour l’interdire. Je pense que beaucoup y réfléchiront à deux fois avant de céder à la tentation. Pendant ce temps, nous devrions tous être à l’affût de signes éloquents : les animaux morts, leur vie drainée. Ce n’est pas mon amour des animaux qui me force à parler. Non, ils sont pitoyables mais sans importance. Je peux seulement spéculer sur l’espérance de vie qu’un Gardien pourrait gagner de cette façon… cent ans… deux cents ans ? Peut-être plus. Mais il faudrait plus que des vermines pour accomplir ceci. Et moi, maintenant que je possède ce savoir, puis-je réellement dire que je ne suis pas tenté ? C’est pour cela que je ne peux pas me taire. A cause de ceci et du Glyphe dont parle Beryl l'Ancien. Elle croit qu’il existe. Nous devons cependant le trouver. Elle pense qu’il permet de changer de forme. Quel puissant élixir de magie cela représenterait !"

Und doch haben meine Worte Wirkung gezeigt. Wenigstens gibt es jetzt ein Verbot, meinen Beispiel zu folgen. Ich denke, nun wird angesichts der Versuchung so mancher zweimal überlegen. Fürs Erste sollten wir alle die Augen nach verräterischen Zeichen offen halten ... nach toten Tieren, die ihrer Lebenskraft beraubt wurden. Nicht meine Liebe zu diesen Kreaturen zwingt mich, die Stimme zu erheben. Nein, die Tiere sind bedauernswert, aber belanglos. Ich kann nur vermuten, wie sehr ein Hüter seine Zeit auf Erden auf diese Weise verlängern kann ... 100 ... vielleicht 200 Jahre? Möglicherweise auch länger. Aber dazu braucht er mehr als dieses Ungeziefer. Und ich? Kann ich, der ich dieses Wissen besitze, guten Gewissens behaupten, dass ich den Gedanken nicht auch verlockend finde? Schon aus diesem Grund darf ich nicht schweigen! Überdies scheint die Glyphe, über die dieÄlteste Beryl nachsinnt, wirklich zu existieren ... eine Glyphe, die uns erlaubt, die Gestalt zu wechseln! Was für eine mächtige Glyphenmagie muss das sein ..."

Eppure le mie parole hanno sortito un certo effetto: almeno adesso c'è la deliberazione che lo vieta. Penso che con questo molti ci penseranno su due volte se la tentazione dovesse presentarsi. Nel frattempo dovremmo tutti fare attenzione ai segni rivelatori, gli animali morti, le loro forze vitali esaurite. Non è l'amore per le creature che mi costringe a parlare. No, sono miserabili, ma irrilevanti. Posso solo avanzare ipotesi su quanto a lungo un custode potrebbe prolungare la durata normale della vita in questo modo... cento... duecento anni? Forse di più.
